Benji Rogers (dotBlockchain) - dotBlockchain music project presentation
British technologist and musician Benji Rogers is founder of Pledge Music, which is one of the leading artist-to-fan platforms today, with over 3 million users and 50,000 artists. He is also co-founder of the dotBlockchain media project, which attempts to use Blockchain technology to create a global decentralized database of music rights. Here he gives his presentation that should have been part of the MIT Enterprise Forum in 2016, in Cambridge.
Benji Rogers has been studying digital rights expression in the musical world and he imagines a world in which songs leave the studio with copyright information hard coded into the file itself. This is needed because digitization has changed sharing music and has allowed to corrupt original files, by removing ownership data. There’s not even one central place where people can go to look up this data, because in general the stakeholders in the music industry do not share their data or use a common file format. dotBlockchain proposes a new music file format made for the Blockchain, that cannot be altered, but can be managed and updated by the owner.
